Welcome From Our Polemarch Barrington Atkins

Welcome to the web site of the Poughkeepsie Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. Our hope is that you will peruse our information in its entirety; and join us in our endeavor to improve the quality of life of families in Poughkeepsie and Danbury CT.
We are proud to celebrate over 55 years serving the communities of New York and Connecticut. In 1968, eleven prominent Kappa men came together; and were responsible for obtaining a charter to develop the Poughkeepsie Alumni Chapter.
Ever since 1968, Poughkeepsie Kappas have served as leaders in government, business, education, religion and inspiration for youth to succeed in their educational, employment and life endeavors. In addition, brothers have provided the less fortunate, with many essential services.
We welcome young men, who have received a bachelors degree, to join us in our service to the community and provision of leadership training to youth. We also welcome them to enjoy the honor and satisfaction of joining Kappa Men internationally, whose constant quest is “achievement in every field of human endeavor.” Become a Kappa Man!!
Who We Are
The Poughkeepsie Alumni Chapter has remained committed to the Poughkeepsie NY and Danbury Ct areas for over 50 years. Kappas have always had, and still have, a presence in the community. We serve the less fortunate in soup kitchens; provide turkeys and other foods to ensure that low income families enjoy wonderful Thanksgivings; award scholarships to qualified young people; participate in career days at local public schools; create enrichment programs to help broaden the skills of young people; host Christmas parties for children from low income families and much more.
For many years, our 501©3 not for profit, Beyond the Dream Foundation (BTDF), has hosted our annual black tie (red and white) galas, which are the major fund raisers to provide scholarships. Our next scholarship gala will be on 4/22/23. In addition, the foundation sponsors an annual bus ride to Foxwoods Casino, to raise funding for community programs. This year, the bus ride to Foxwoods is now being planned. Information about our fund raisers, and how to submit a tax deductible donation, are on the BTDF site. We invite you to explore the BTDF site. Learn more about our community projects and how to join us in our quest to improve the quality of life for underprivileged families in Poughkeepsie NY and Danbury CT.
